Shopping for Electric Providers

When the retail competition shopping window opens on January 5, 2024, customers will have six weeks to shop for and choose a provider using the state's official shopping website, PowerToChoose.org, or by directly contacting approved retail electric providers.

Below is a list of approved retail electric providers in Lubbock. If you are approached by a provider outside of this list, proceed with caution as it may be a scammer.

If you are a registered REP and don't see your information listed, please email marketops@mail.ci.lubbock.tx.us.

Retail Electric Competition

The Shopping Process

Next Steps*

  • Authorized REPs will begin outreach to potential customers and determine electric rates.
  • LP&L will continue public education efforts with scheduled education sessions listed on the website. During the January 2024 shopping window, REPs will attend public information sessions to meet with potential customers.
  • All customers that have not chosen their electric provider at the end of the shopping window will be assigned to one.
  • Customers will transition to their new providers and receive a final electric bill from LP&L in March 2024.

NOTE: LP&L will not be a retail electric provider, and will not partner with any retailers or trade groups related with competition and the retail electric market. Customers will not have the option to stay with LP&L.
