LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Power & Light has restored power to customers affected by tonight’s outage stemming from a downed aircraft. Power was restored at 11 p.m. to the 2,450 customers whose service was interrupted when LP&L crews were able to successfully work around extensive damage caused by the tonight’s tragic accident. A small number of customers located in the immediate proximity of the crash site may experience lingering outages as crews will be required to repair damage to infrastructure in the coming days.

Shortly before 8 p.m. this evening a small aircraft collided with a television tower located on Avenue A. After striking the tower, the aircraft struck a main LP&L transmission line located in close proximity. The affected transmission line feeds two LP&L substations.

LP&L crews arrived on the scene shortly after the incident occurred and worked to isolate the damage in order to fully restore power to all customers. We appreciate the patience of our customers as our crews worked as quickly as possible to restore power to affected customers. Given the severe nature of the accident, our crews worked closely with City of Lubbock emergency responders in order to safely complete the restoration.

If any LP&L customer’s power is still out or if any customer experiences an interruption of service over the next few days, we ask they please contact LP&L by sending a text or email with their name and address to lightsout@lpandl.com or by calling (806) 775-2509
