LUBBOCK – Lubbock Power & Light is pleased to announce the hiring of David McCalla as Director of Electric Utilities.  McCalla, a former General Manager for Greenville Electric Utility System and former President of Texas Public Power Association, brings an extensive knowledge base and years of quality experience to the position.  McCalla was brought on board as Assistant Director of Electric Utilities in May of 2014 before being named Interim Director of Electric Utilities in July of 2014.

McCalla graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He worked his way up the ranks at Greenville Electric Utility System, holding the positions of Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering Operations and Assistant General Manager during an 18-year period before being named General Manager in 2006. He held that position through April 2014.  With more than 34 years’ experience in the electric utility industry, McCalla will be tasked with focusing on system reliability, strategic planning, customer service and daily operations of all staff.

“David McCalla brought to LP&L a wealth of knowledge and expertise that has helped move this utility on a strong path forward,” said Greg Taylor, Chairman of the Electric Utility Board.  “David performed with great distinction as General Manager of Greenville Electric Utility System and has shown in his time as Interim Director that he is the perfect fit to be the long-term leader of our electric utility.”

As General Manager of Greenville Electric Utility System, McCalla oversaw all aspects of their operation, including power plants, power supply, engineering operations, accounting, customer service and cable and internet services.  McCalla procured, constructed and successfully operated new generation resources for the utility.  He established a Power Supply Management System department tasked with managing Greenville’s daily power supply in the ERCOT wholesale market, which resulted in substantial system-wide savings for its customers.

“As the City’s municipal electric provider, we are committed to ensuring that your utility is run as efficiently and effectively as possible,” Taylor said.  “We focus on improving our operations every day.  With the hiring of David McCalla as Director of Electric Utilities, LP&L has a new leadership team in place that is very well suited to tackle all of the challenges we as a utility face in order to ensure that we maintain our strong dedication to continually providing the citizens of Lubbock with the most reliable electric service at the lowest possible cost to the consumer.”
