LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Power and Light (LP&L) will be launching a pilot electricity education program with Lubbock Independent School District (LISD). As Lubbock's municipal electric utility, LP&L provides power to homes and business across the city and employs approximately 265 residents.
The pilot program will take place at five different LISD elementary schools (Maedgen, Whiteside, Wester, Harwell and Hardwick) from March 27 to April 6 and is targeted for fifth grade classes.
“It is always a great to expose our LISD students to supplemental and interactive learning opportunities outside of the classroom. We appreciate when local businesses support our students in a meaningful way, we gladly welcome LP&L to our classrooms,” said Michael Sizemore, K-12 Science Coordinator for LISD.”
The program is designed to support the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science requirements. In addition, the LP&L Education Ambassadors will discuss electricity safety and provide a short demonstration of the creation of electricity.
“We hope this pilot program is just the first of many opportunities for LP&L to engage with LISD students in a meaningful and purposeful way,” said Matt Rose, spokesperson for LP&L.
