Meet Joel Ivy

"I want nothing more or less than for us to be the best municipal utility in the state of Texas and that’s something that we want to strive for. My name is Joel Ivy and I’m the Director of Electric Utilities for LP&L. I’m in charge of and responsible for the day-to-day activities of the electric utility, from the power sales all the way up to the delivery of energy to the customer’s meter.

So there’s a lot of things that we can do to deliver value in this community, but if we go at it with the mindset of being the best then I think we’re always going to be delivering the best value that we can.

When I was interviewing for the job and I found out that they wanted to enter the ERCOT retail market, I thought wow what a great fit. I was there in 2002 when that market opened, I was part of that effort. So it felt like I could really contribute to the organization getting into that retail market in ERCOT.

I’m looking forward to spending the next year getting us to that point and getting our customers to where they can choose their own power provider, they can choose whoever they want, and we’ll deliver the power to them.

Coming from Pecos, Texas, Lubbock was the place we’d always go shopping. The opportunity to move back out to west Texas but in a bigger town than where I grew up was very appealing to me and my wife, and so we’re just ready to come back home and try to be a part of this great community.

My wife and I have been married for 41 years and we’ve got three grandkids now. So, anything anybody tells you about the greatness of grandkids is absolutely true.

I’ve been in the business for roughly 39 years, I’ve had the opportunity to live in several different places around the state of Texas, and I’m so proud to be back in Texas and looking forward to making a difference here in Lubbock."
