LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Power & Light is currently experiencing an outage effecting approximately 2,500 customers located primarily in Southeast Lubbock. Shortly before 8 p.m. this evening a small aircraft collided with a television tower located on Avenue A. After striking the tower, the aircraft struck a main LP&L transmission line located in close proximity. The affected transmission line feeds two LP&L substations.

“LP&L crews arrived on the scene shortly after the incident occurred and are working to isolate the damage in order to fully restore power to all customers. We appreciate the patience of our customers as our crews work as quickly as possible to restore the outage. Given the nature of the accident our crews are working closely with City of Lubbock emergency responders in order to safely complete the restoration."

Given the severity of the accident, LP&L customers located outside of Southeast Lubbock could experience an interruption of service.
