LP&L and Clean Texas

from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality

Clean Texas:

Recognizing our Brightest Stars

A better environment is everyone’s business.

Here in Texas, there is little question that our many businesses and industries are often the lifeblood of the communities we call home.  However, in pursuing economic growth and prosperity, it is important to take steps that will ensure this growth does not come at the cost of protecting the environment we all share.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Clean Texas program is an example of the type of voluntary, collaborative effort that will help to maintain the balance of economic prosperity and environmental quality.  Clean Texas, the state’s environmental leadership program, aims to produce real environmental improvements, whether those results include reducing air emissions, improving water quality, conserving water resources, or reducing waste.

Since it was launched in 1992, Clean Texas program has emerged as a leader in national efforts to promote improved environmental performance.

In 2008, LP&L employees formed a team with goal of creating an Environmental Management System (EMS).  The creation of the EMS took employees nearly a year as they considered every activity and aspect of LP&L to determine our impact on the environment.

After the EMS was completed, LP&L applied to join the Clean Texas program.  On October 28, 2009 the TCEQ formally announced that the LP&L facilities listed below met the requirements and were admitted into the Clean Texas program.

Please take a moment to see what the goal is for each facility and then think about what you could do at your business or home to lessen your impact on the environment.
